"In memory of those who never made it home."
"To be killed in war is not the worst that can happen. To be lost is not the worst that can happen... to be forgotten is the worst." -Pierre Claeyssens (1909-2003)
On Monday, December 10 from Noon–12:30pm, we invite you to join us at Kittery Trading Post as we host a visit from Wreaths Across America. Stop by and see 10,000 donated Christmas wreaths from the state of Maine in enormous trailers which house the wreaths. The trailers will be escorted by vehicles from the Patriot Guard Riders (motorcycles and flagged vehicles) from Maine to Virginia. The goal of Wreaths Across America is to invite at least one citizen to participate as a witness along the way for every solider who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Wreaths Across America story began over 16 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company (a for-profit commercial business from Harrington, Maine) began a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. This year will mark the 20th season of wreaths being donated to remember our fallen heroes during the holidays and will also mark the annual parade, where the wreaths will be escorted by dozens of vehicles to show their respect and appreciation for the fallen heroes. Let us honor those who never made it home as these Christmas wreaths from the State of Maine begin the annual trek to their eventual home adorning the graves of our veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.
