Tuesday, August 28, 2007 Kittery, Maine - On Tuesday, August 28th two vandals severely damaged a sand sculpture created by Ed Jarrett as part of &ldquot;The Castle to the Sun&rdquot; fundraiser to benefit Camp Sunshine. According to Joe Simpson, Director of Loss Prevention for Kittery Trading Post reports the value of the ruined sculpture was $8500. The Kittery Police Department is investigating the crime. Kittery Trading Post has provided investigators with a surveillance tape that includes footage of two white males, likely between 17 to 20 years causing the destruction then leaving the site in a green pick-up truck. The crime took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. Customers who purchase a paper sand castle at Kittery Trading Post at 301 US Route 1 in Kittery through this Saturday, September 1, 2007 for $1.00, will be entered into a drawing to be held the same day. The proceeds will go to help Camp Sunshine during their &ldquot;Castle to the Sun 2007 Guinness World Record Event&rdquot; attempt for the tallest Sand Castle. &ldquot;When the sandcastle was vandalized it was heartbreaking for all the employees of Kittery Trading Post and the customers who have been coming by daily to support Camp Sunshine&rdquot; said Jon Morrill, Vice President of Retail for Kittery Trading Post. &ldquot;We sincerely hope the individuals will come forward to begin to heal the damage they have done and do the right thing.&rdquot; Julie-lynn Belon the Events Manager of Kittery Trading Post would like to turn the vandalism into a positive experience and has asked Ed Jarrett, Sculpture of the Guinness World Record holder for the tallest sand castle, and the creator of Camp Sunshine's current attempt at the tallest sand castle to go back to Kittery Trading Post on September 7 and 8 between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to remold the sand pile into an animal for kids to enjoy. &ldquot;The remolding will be during our annual Septemberfest event says Belon where we expect huge crowds and we hope the public will support Ed in his endeavor&rdquot; &ldquot;The Castle to the Sun&rdquot; project to build the worlds largest sandcastle for the Guinness book of records at Sebago Lake is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness for Camp Sunshine, who we work with on a variety of projects through the year to help educate the public what they do for the kids and by far this was the most fun event we have done&rdquot; said Morrill.
